It never dawned on me that the result of being sexually confused was due to the fact that I was the “bunso” getting all the attention from the family – baka pagod na sya, baka basa ng pawis, baka mainitan, baka gutom, etc. Didn’t have the chance the manly behavior/characteristics get to be honed.
Grade 2 ako when all of a sudden me masayang balita na ni-announce sa family while having dinner. Si Dad was saying, they didn’t plan this but they are happy to say that our mom is pregnant. Tatlo kaming magkakapatid and soon hindi na ako magiging bunso dahil after 8 years magkakaron ng bagong bunso. At first, I wasn’t happy about it but later on as the day passes-by lahat sila masaya at kahit ako rin naging excited sa magiging bagong member ng family namin.
The day comes and it was a baby girl and she was named Charlette. Super cute talaga sya and everyone’s eyes ay lahat napako sa kanya that sometimes I felt I am being left out. My parents are near perfect so alam nilang hatiin ang attention sa apat nilang anak but the people around us – they don’t care or probably hindi nila napapansin na lahat sila eh nakatuon ang atensyon sa bagong bunso at nakalimutan na ako na dating pinaka cute sa lahat sa kanila. Nevermind the 2 others na kapatid ko kasi mas me isip na sila being older than the 2 of us. Sa province namin, kilala ang family dahil dating mayor ang lolo ko not to mention that the whole clan are well respected. That was the reason almost everyone’s eyes are always looking at us at dahil nga sa nasa politiko ang lolo ko, we were all disciplined kids at ma respeto sa lahat ng tao at ng dahil nga dito na dati nasa akin lahat ang attention biglang nalipat lahat ke Charlette na para bang sya ang bunso ng buong bayan.
Suddenly my life has changed, ngayon mas matagal na ang inilalagi ko sa school hindi gaya ng dati na right after classes eh takbo na akong pauwi ng bahay to play with my cousins or neighboring kids.
My name is Sydrey, I am not an honor student, just a normal kid in class pero nakitaan ako ng galing sa pag-sayaw so all the time kasali ako sa dance troupe ng school namin. Normally, 5 pairs ang kasali sa group – 5 boys and 5 girls. Ng dahil sa kaming grupo ang magkakasama all the time after classes dahil sa practice sessions duon na develop ang pagiging close namin sa isa’t-isa. Madalas kaming nag tutuksuhan and part of those teasing were kissing sa cheeks ke yong babae sa group or lalaki man. At first, I never realized that si Arman eh ako ang parating hinahalikan sa cheeks. Napansin ko lang ng yong partner kong si Elsie ang nagsabing bakit si Sydrey ang parati mong hinahalikan at hindi si Doriane na sya mong partner – duon ko nasabi sa sarili kong “oo nga no” so sabay tanong ke Arman kung bakit ako hinahalikan nya at mabilis nyang sagot eh kasi mas mabango ka sa lahat at dahil sa tuksuhan na yon ako na lang ang parating hinahalikan ng lahat sa grupo.
Arman and I became close that we started going home at the same time or even playing together on weekends despite the fact that we don’t live close to each other, probably 5 blocks away pero ano ba naman yun sa probinsya lahat naman kasi eh malapit kung tutuusin. Two years after pagdating namin ng Grade 4 biglang nagkahiwalay kami ng section sa classes, at first it was kinda sad kasi hindi na kami magkasama oras-oras or there was a time hindi kami nagkikita sa isang araw dahil mag-kaiba ng activities.
One day there was a strong typhoon that hit our town, almost half of the whole school was devastated so ang nangyari yong ibang teachers have to find a way to conduct their classes somewhere else. Yong teacher namin eh merong malaking bahay and yong ibaba ng bahay nila was big enough to accommodate our section so we end up having classes there.
Guess what, our new school is right in front of the house of my friend Arman.
